Why do smokers have lines and wrinkles typically around their mouth and eyes?

What exactly causes it? Is it the smoke itself? Is it dragging on a cigarette and indenting their mouth and squinting their eyes to avoid smoke or ashes getting in their eyes? How many years does it take? Can a 13 year old smoker get those wrinkles after about a year of smoking?

Because smoking ruins your skin among other things.

cause the smoke makes your skin age its disgusting you would not get those wrinkles after one yr of smokin you would have to smoke for more then 25 yrs for that to happen

Smoking is toxic to your body, it takes away the elasticity of your skin and makes it age faster.

It's because the oxygen levels are diminished and the epidermis is starved of nourishment due the nicotine intake, this causes premature ageing of the skin. Also the dragging action is a factor when it comes to lines around the mouth as the repetitive sucking motion can cause vertical lines around the lips and also the thinning of the lips. There's not only the wrinkles but the greying of the skin, again that's to do with a lack of oxygen carrying blood to plump and feed the skin's surface so over time it takes on a grey hue. A 13 year old wouldn't get wrinkles after a year, but when they're in their 20s they will be the ones starting to see the crows feet when all their non-smoking friends are line free, they will always look older. The problem is they don't consider it when they're young as young people never care about getting older, it's only when you get there that you think "Oh God what have I done?".

smokers get lines/wrinkles around their mouth because when you put the cig in ur mouth to smoke, u put ur lips together creating those lines to puff the cig and after years of doing it, it begins to wrinkle. So yea….its the indenting of the mouth and stuff! And a 13y/o shouldnt be smoking….its not cool and will kill u. Havent we all seentthose TRUTH commercials enough?!

after years and years im sure it does…

    and no
ive been smokin since i was 13 and im 16 now…. no wrinkles at all.
i think it also depends on how much you smoke….
    smokin is a BAD habit

smoking cuts off oxygen from your body and i think thats why it causes wrinkles.

i believe that a logical explanation to that would include the smoke that comes from the cigarettes. the smoke contains toxins which go directly to the face, thus making it highly susceptible to premature aging. a lip exercise, described in http://antiwrinklezone.com/anti-wrinkle-treatment/get-rid-of-lip-wrinkles , can help prevent lip wrinkling. but the smoking has to stop, too.
